Acoustic control in classrooms
Modern teaching methods involving group work and individualised training create new acoustic requirements for schools. These are often a challenge for existing school buildings. One of the key challenges is to reduce reverberation.
Västerängsskolan in Bålsta, Sweden, presented the additional challenge of very high ceilings. To meet the requirements for better sound, the school, in cooperation with Gyproc, mounted Gyptone INSTANT in one of the school's classrooms. The effect was significant, and now the classroom enjoys a better sound environment.
INSTANT is designed to regulate the acoustics of rooms that require both shorter reverberation time and better speech intelligibility. The latter was a particular requirement for this school in Sweden as the level of reverberation was already acceptable.
An INSTANT board can be installed in just 20 minutes, so full installation at the school was quick. Furthermore, INSTANT is a robust board and so particularly suited to school environments.
